Canberra, 4 August 2025– The Australian Government has pledged an additional $20 million in humanitarian assistance to support civilians in Gaza, where catastrophic conditions persist amid ongoing conflict. The new funding aims to deliver urgent food, medical supplies, and lifesaving aid through trusted international partners.

Since October 2023, Australia has committed over $130 million in aid to assist civilians affected by the crisis in Gaza and Lebanon. The latest package will support key humanitarian organisations working on the ground, ensuring rapid delivery of assistance following the opening of new aid corridors.

Breakdown of Australia’s New Gaza Support Package

  • $2 million in joint relief efforts with the United Kingdom
  • $6 million to the UN World Food Programme for emergency food distribution
  • $5 million to UNICEF for nutritional aid to malnourished children
  • $5 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for healthcare access
  • $2 million to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization for medical supplies and field hospitals

Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Aid Access

Foreign Minister Penny Wong reiterated Australia’s stance on the crisis, stating:
“Australia has consistently called on Israel to allow full and immediate aid access to Gaza, in line with the binding orders of the International Court of Justice. The suffering and starvation of civilians must end.”

She emphasized the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace.

International Development Minister Dr. Anne Aly stressed the urgency of aid delivery:
“We’re working with partners to provide life-saving assistance to Gaza’s people, but aid must be allowed in at scale. Australia’s funding will help address starvation and healthcare shortages—but Israel must ensure unimpeded access.”

Continued International Coordination

Australia is closely coordinating with allies, including the UK and Jordan, to maximise the impact of its aid. The funding will bolster efforts by UN agencies and humanitarian groups struggling to operate under dire conditions.

As the crisis worsens, the Australian Government remains committed to supporting civilians in Gaza while advocating for a political resolution to end the cycle of violence.
