Canberra, 30 July 2025 – The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Canberra hosted a grand diplomatic reception to mark the 26th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne. The event brought together Australian officials, members of the diplomatic corps, academics, business leaders, and representatives of the Moroccan community in Australia to celebrate Morocco’s achievements and the strengthening ties between the two nations.
In her keynote address, Her Excellency the Moroccan Ambassador to Australia highlighted the remarkable progress Morocco has made under the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI. She emphasized the Kingdom’s advancements in green transition, including ambitious renewable energy projects, as well as its commitment to South-South cooperation and efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
The Ambassador also underscored the growing international support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as the most credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. She reiterated Morocco’s dedication to a peaceful resolution while reaffirming the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
With Morocco and Australia set to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, the Ambassador announced the appointment of Mr. Edmund Damouni as Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco in Western Australia. This move reflects the deepening bilateral ties and aims to further enhance economic, cultural, and diplomatic exchanges between the two countries.
The reception was a vibrant celebration of Moroccan culture, featuring traditional music, cuisine, and art, symbolizing the enduring friendship between Morocco and Australia. As both nations look toward the future, the event reinforced their shared commitment to cooperation and mutual prosperity.
