CANBERRA – The High Commission for Pakistan in Canberra on Thursday observed Defence Day with solemnity and national pride, paying tribute to the heroic sacrifices of the nation’s armed forces.
The ceremony, held on September 4, marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s history: the day( September 6) in 1965 when the nation’s armed forces and citizens stood united to successfully defend the motherland against a larger invading force. It is a day that embodies the core values of patriotism, courage, and the unwavering resolve to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.

In her address, Ms. Faiza Haseeb, Charge d’Affaires, reflected on the profound significance of the day. She highlighted the concept of Marqa-e-Haq (the Station of Truth), which symbolizes a national spirit rooted in resilience, unity, and the ultimate triumph of peace and justice over aggression and oppression.
Ms. Haseeb reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to peace and security in the region and beyond, noting the country’s leading role in United Nations peacekeeping operations. “Pakistani peacekeepers have consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism, courage, and an unwavering commitment to global peace,” she stated.

Shifting to bilateral relations, the Charge d’Affaires underscored the vibrant bridge of education connecting Pakistan and Australia and acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Pakistani diaspora. She highlighted the strong existing ties in defence and security and pointed to the immense potential for expanding the relationship into new areas such as trade & investment, agriculture, minerals, and technology.

Brig. Muhammad Laique Rafiq, Defence Adviser, reaffirmed the armed forces’ resolute commitment to upholding Pakistan’s security and strategic interests. He stated that September 6th stands as a perpetual and solemn reminder of the nation’s enduring spirit and the ultimate price paid by its shuhada (martyrs).
The event was well-attended by senior Australian government and defence officials, members of the diplomatic corps, defence attachés from friendly nations, media representatives, and a large number of proud members of the Pakistani community in Australia.
