Australia-Indonesia 2+2 meeting due today

Australia-Indonesia 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers’ meeting will be held today in Bali where Foreign Minister Marise Payne and Minister for Defence, Linda Reynolds will hold talks with their Indonesian counterparts Minister for Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, and the Minister for Defence, Prabowo Subianto.

“The 2+2 meeting is an important opportunity to discuss additional ways to deepen and strengthen our partnership, and identify areas for greater cooperation to meet shared security and foreign policy challenges”, Ms Payne and Ms Reynolds said in a joint statement.

Indonesia and Australia are firm friends and neighbours, as well as strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific.

“Our countries have shared commitments to combatting terrorism, ensuring maritime security, promoting peace and security in our region, and working to strengthen regional security architecture”, joint statement read.

Both sides are also committed to building trade and investment ties under the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
