Sri Lankan High Commissioner presented credentials to Governor-General

Newly appointed High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Mr. J.C. Weliamuna PC presented Letters of Credence to the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, David Hurly.

The ceremony which was held at the Government House on 20th September 2019 was attended by Ms. Penny Williams, Deputy Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) representing   Minister for Foreign Affairs and Women, Australia, said a statement issued by the High Commission of Sri Lanka.

Following the presentation of credentials High Commissioner Weliamuna had a one to one meeting with the Governor- General and conveyed warm greetings from the President Maitreepala Sirisena , Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and peoples of Sri Lanka to the Governor-General.

High Commissioner expressed his keen interest in further enhancing the friendly relations and close cooperation between the two countries to new heights.

While congratulating the High Commissioner, the Governor-General wished him success in his new assignment and warmly recalled the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries.

Earlier, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka was presented Guard of Honour. Later Governor-General hosted an official lunch to the newly accredited Heads of Mission at the Government House.

High Commissioner J.C. Weliamuna is a President’s Counsel and holds a Master of Laws Degree from the University of Colombo with numerous professional achievements in the areas of Constitutional, Human Rights and International Law.
