Turkish Ambassador hosts Republic Day Reception in Canberra

On the auspicious occasion of the 96th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Mr Korhan Karakoc on Tuesday 29th October hosted Republic Day reception at Embassy of Turkey in Federal Capital, Canberra.

The Republic Day Reception is most important annual event for the Turkish Embassy which was attended by the diplomatic corps including Ambassadors/ High Commissioners based in federal capital, members of both Federal and ACT parliaments, media representatives, prominent Turkish community leaders and notables from all walk of life.

Ms Kate Logan, Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade represented the Commonwealth of Australia and greeted the great people and government of Republic of Turkey on behalf of the Queen and Governor General of Australia.

Ambassador Korhan Karakoc who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests along the staff of Turkish Embassy, also delivered a speech in which he recalled the various achievements on all levels and importance of Turkey-Australia multifaceted relations.

Conveying the sentiments of Turkish people’s sincere friendship, Ambassador Korhan said that Turkey has been, is and will always be a precious, credible and loyal friend to it’s true friends.

Referring the turbulent situation in the region, he said that after 96 years Turkey is situated at the centre of a challenging geography where historically massive transformations take place but our heritage, social and political harmony, political, economic and social development enable us to steer through the major challenges of our region.

“We don’t hesitate to assume responsibility in our region, as circumstances dictate. This is what we inherited from ATATURK, the founder of the Republic”, Turkish Ambassador reminded.

Declaring Turkey-Australia relations as inspiration for peace and friendship, Ambassador Korhan said the Turks and Aussies inherited the Gallipoli Spirit from their ancestors and maintaining this spirit, Turkey attach utmost importance to her ties with Australia.

Commending the close bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues, he reiterated that deepening bilateral relations in every field is our priority and we are determined to do so in the period ahead.

He also paid tributes to more than 100 thousand strong Turkish community in Australia who act as a bridge between two nations and actively take part in shaping the future of Australia and embracing and promoting Australia’s shared values while maintaining their cultural heritage.

Ambassador Korhan also readout message of Turkish President for the Republic Day in which he paid rich tributes to all national heroes for the foundation of new state.

At the beginning of the Republic Day ceremony, national anthems of Australia and Turkey were played.

The guests were entertained with a range of traditional delicious Turkish cuisines including most famous sweet Baklava and Turkish kebabs.
