MANILA: Pakistan and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on high-level engagement, dialogue, and cooperation on regional and global issues.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) 2026 in Manila.
Pakistan and Australia have enjoyed longstanding diplomatic relations spanning more than seven decades. The two countries cooperate across a wide range of areas, including trade, education, agriculture, development, defence, and people-to-people links. Australia is also home to a vibrant Pakistani community that continues to contribute to strengthening ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding cooperation through regular high-level exchanges and closer engagement in areas of mutual interest.
They also exchanged views on key regional and international developments. Senator Wong acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue and efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
Expressing concern over recent escalations in the region, both leaders underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law as the foundation for achieving lasting peace, stability, and security.
The meeting reflected the shared desire of both countries to deepen their partnership while working together to address regional and global challenges through peaceful cooperation and diplomatic engagement.
