Qatar condemns stabbing incident in Melbourne

Qatar has strongly condemned and denounced a stabbing incident in the Australian city of Melbourne, which led to the death of one person and injury of another.

Melbourne Police has confirmed the identity of Bourke Street attacker as Hassan Khalif Shire Ali. Police allege the 30-year old Somalian-born man had been planning to use gas cylinders to cause an explosion in Melbourne.

Mr Shire Ali on Friday set a car alight then stabbed three men before he was shot by police in the chest. He later died in hospital.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm stance on rejecting violence and terrorism, regardless of motives and reasons”, said a statement carried by the Embassy of State of Qatar in Canberra.

The statement expressed the condolences of the State of Qatar to the family of the victim, the government and the people of Australia, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
