The Governor-General of Australia, General David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Wednesday appointed Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte an Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to Australia’s bilateral relationship with the Netherlands and his outstanding leadership in response to the MH17 air disaster.

At a ceremony at Admiralty House, Sydney Governor-General conducted an investiture ceremony to present him with the insignia of his appointment and, on behalf of all Australians, thank him for his ongoing friendship.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has welcome the Governor-General’s appointment of Mr Mark Rutte AC, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, as an Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia.

“This award recognises Mr Rutte’s eminent service to Australia’s relationship with the Netherlands, and his outstanding leadership in response to the downing of MH17”, Mr Morrison said in his statement.

He said our two countries continue to stand united and resolute in our commitment to pursuing accountability for this tragedy and to achieving justice for the 289 victims and their loved ones.
